Biography: Michael Givel is an associate professor of political science at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. His teaching and research interests include health policy, tobacco policy, policy change theory, comparative public policy, and corporate actions and regulatory policy. From July to December 2009, Professor Givel became the first U.S. Fulbright scholar to conduct teaching and research in Bhutan. Prior to Professor Givel's appointment at the University of Oklahoma, he was an Institute Project Fellow and researcher at the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He conducted academic research analyzing state and local tobacco control policy making and politics in the United States. While at the Institute for Health Policy Studies, Professor Givel also was a graduate of the postdoctoral Health Services Research Training Program. Professor Givel has also been named as Who's Who in Healthcare and Medicine from 2006 to the present. He received his PhD from the University of California, Riverside in 1988.
